Maximilien Robespierre: Principles of Political Morality

Robespierre was an influential person in the French Revolution. He dominated the Committee of Public Safety and was the main figure associated with The Terror. Robespierre controlled the new Government and initiated a rein of fear, more commonly known as The Terror. Robespierre guillotined political opponents and enemies of his government. Eventually, Robespierre was beheaded himself near the end of the Revolution.

Robespierre's Beliefs:
Robespierre believed that the entire purpose of Revolution was to allow the people to have Liberty and Equality. He also believed that citizens must have a love for justice for things to work well: When citizens follow the magistrate, and the magistrate is governed by General Will, then the people are doing the right thing, because of their love of justice. Since Robespierre was the creator of The Terror, he supported it up until his death. During his life, Robespierre tried to justify the mass killing of people as it makes liberty and equality achievable.
Robespierre was one of the few people who truly believed that The Terror was a efficient way to change the country. Robespierre was an extremist who tried to persuade the common person into supporting his thoughts. In the end, Robespierre was guillotined by the Committee of Public Safety as a threat to the new government.
